Finland! What? Why?
After the war period, since 1945 in about 45 years period Finland climbed to the category of the healthiest and wealthiest countries in the world and has been remaining it’s position until now. Although having big forest resources to be exploited by the forest industry, Finland has been following a wise policy in utilizing it’s natural and human resources. The future concern has been the leading clue in decision making. That is one of the principles that Finland has been promoting further in the international forums of authorities and politicians. That principle has created high knowledge, awareness and concern of the living circumstances and environment in Finland.
The population density is one of the lowest in the developed counties, only 15,5 inhabitants per km2. Natural and well cared resources for controlled exploitation are thus big. However, tight rules for industrial exploitation have left large areas nearly untouched. Those areas can freely be utilized by anyone for refreshing and relaxing purposes. The national everyman’s right provides many natural resources, like mushrooms and berries freely available for picking to anybody. Such resources are fully renewable.
The climate conditions close to the Arctic Cycle and above the 60th latitude are specific for the plants. The growing season is short with great amount of light, as in the growing season the days are very long and nights are short. Even the midnight sun appears in the middle of the summer. Due to those conditions the plants have particular, positive features the delicious taste being one of them. The low average temperature assures that there are not many species of pests jeopardizing the harvest, so using pesticides is minimized and organic farming is very popular and organic food is available in large quantities. Finland produces many grain and berry products directly from the nature with minimized grade of processing.
Finland has a large number of lakes, even as many as 187.000. They are well protected and unpolluted. Finnish fish is thus natural and popular food. It is delicious and safe and available in many forms salmon being one of the favorites.
But water in Finland is not only in the lakes. During the ice age, several thousands of years ago the rocks formed big, isolated reservoirs of water. They are nowadays located underneath the thick rock and soil layers having very high purity and quality and are fully renewable.
Finnish nature and climate is clean and specific. Food from Finland is delicious, clean and of high quality. Food from the finnish nature, like berries, has many proven health affects. Also raw materials for finnish food are very versatile and can easily be modified to adopt the other food cultures and their tastes.
